Footage shows the calf clinging onto the muddy river bank for dear life as the reptile clamps its jaws firmly around its ankle.
Determined to die another day, the young impala forces itself out of the water and uses all its might to stop the croc from pulling it under.
No matter how desperately the predator yanks at the calf’s leg, it remains above water, refusing to succumb to the relentless attack.
But what happens next is just unbelievable.
The crocodile’s patience wears thin and it retreats into the water, leaving the impala victor in the battle of wills.
But just as its attacker has left, two terrapins leap out of the water.
“No, no, no! Why don’t you just get up, impala? Why are you letting them eat you after all that struggling with the crocodile?!”
And instead of battling the reptiles, the exhausted mammal just collapses in the water and allows them to tear it to pieces.
Over half a million people have watched the footage – filmed at Kruger National Park in South Africa – and viewers were gobsmacked by what they saw.
“Oh my god. I’m so glad the video ends there. Horrendous,” wrote one YouTube user.

Another commented: “No, no, no! Why don’t you just get up, impala? Why are you letting them eat you after all that struggling with the crocodile?!”
And a third added: “Those turtles are some cold-blooded b******s.”
It comes after another incident at Kruger National Park saw a huge crocodile rip an eel in half.
The massive reptile smacked the fish to death on a river bank before feasting on it.
