CNN political commentator Angela Rye on Thursday said that statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson “need to come down” because they were slave owners.
On CNN’s “At This Hour,” Rye was asked by host Kate Bolduan if the country’s ongoing national debate about race triggered by the violence in Charlottesville, Va. is really about Confederate statues.
“George Washington was a slave owner… He wasn’t protecting my freedom. I wasn’t someone who, my ancestors weren’t deemed human beings to him,” Rye responded.
“So to me, I don’t care if it’s a George Washington statue or a Thomas Jefferson statue or a Robert E. Lee statue. They all need to come down,” she added.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump weighed in on the heated discussion on whether Confederate monuments and statues around the country should come down.
“Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments… Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson – who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!” Trump tweeted.
100% Fed Up reports:
CNN tries to pass off radical Angela Rye as a sane analyst but we know her history and believe her to be very far left. She just made that statement that statues and monuments to two of America’s most prominent Founding Fathers, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, “need to come down.”
