The city of Chicago, Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. However, these laws have done nothing to stop the surging gun crime rate in the city. This was proven once again this past weekend, when four people were killed and 37 were injured in shootings across Chicago between Friday evening and Sunday night.
ABC 7 Chicago reported that the final fatal shooting of the weekend took place at around 7:23pm on Sunday, when a 16 year-old boy was gunned down in a drive-by-shooting in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood. The boy was standing in the 1200 block of South Avers when a red four-door car drove up and it’s occupant opened fire on him.
The boy was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead upon his arrival.
A road rage incident turned deadly in Chicago at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, when a 27 year-old man was shot in the head as he drove in the South Side Chatham neighborhood. Someone in another vehicle had taken out a gun and shot him before speeding away. The victim was pronounced dead at 4:23 p.m., and the gunman is in custody at this time.
Raven Lemons, 25, was fatally shot at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday when she was standing on a sidewalk in the Streeterville neighborhood. A gunman approached her and opened fire, shooting Lemons in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:13 a.m.
This is just a small taste of the rampant gun violence that occurred in Chicago this past weekend. Clearly, stricter gun laws have done nothing to actually lower the gun crime rate there!
