Fox News signed former Republican South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy as a political and legal contributor, the network announced Wednesday.
Gowdy, who rose to fame for his aggressive investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Benghazi while chairman of the House Select Committee, announced that he would not seek re-election to his seat in 2018.
In addition to chairing the House Select Committee during the Beghazi investigation, Gowdy served as the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and was a member of the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees. He was known for his fiery interrogations of government officials during public hearings and his aggressive commentary on cable news.
Prior to running for Congress, Gowdy served as a prosecutor in South Carolina and was awarded the Postal Inspector’s Award for successfully prosecuting J. Mark Allen, one of “America’s Most Wanted” suspects.
In early January, Gowdy revealed that he would be joining Nelson Mullins, a South Carolina-based law and lobbying firm. Gowdy previously worked at the firm through 1994, when he left to become an assistant federal prosecutor.
Gowdy will appear on both Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network’s daytime and primetime programming, according to a release from Fox News.
