Greg Gutfeld Goes Nuclear, Threatens To Kick Juan William Off Of Fox News Set

Fireworks struck the set of Fox News’ “The Five” Wednesday, as Greg Gutfeld gave Juan Williams a thrashing more than a few conservatives have been clamoring for, albeit deploying some pretty convoluted reasoning in the process.

The topic was Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony earlier today, which produced several notable moments.

At one point during the Fox panel’s reaction, Gutfeld interrupted Williams to ask “What about Morgan? Morgan has not spoken,” referring to panelist Morgan Ortagus who apparently hadn’t gotten much chance to weigh in.

“Gosh, are you guys ever going to let me finish?” Williams sniffed, to which Gutfeld snapped, “No, because you’re always finishing! There’s somebody sitting there who hasn’t said a damn word!”

Williams shot back that Gutfeld was “so deep in the bunker,” which is when Greg really lost it.

“Oh, shut up, Juan! I’m in nobody’s bunker,” he retorted. “Enough with your bunker. I’m trying to be polite to somebody on the panel, Juan, which you won’t do!”

“I’m very polite to Morgan,” Juan responded, to which Gutfeld challenged, “then let her speak!”

Should Fox News fire Juan Williams?

Ortagus then got her chance, which she used to bring the conversation back on topic. It was then Williams’ turn again, which he used to regurgitate the usual boilerplate about what a horrible person Donald Trump is. He sparred for a bit with Jesse Watters, but before long the real battle resumed.

“You are so blind because you, like Greg, are deep in the bunker,” Williams quipped.

That did it. “If you say that again, I’m going to throw you off the set,” Gutfeld threatened. “You know what the bunker means? What you’re intimating is that, who’s in the bunker, Adolf Hitler, correct?”

“No, I was not!” Williams protested, but Greg wasn’t having any of it.

“That’s what you’re saying,” he insisted. “No, when you are saying somebody is in the bunker […] what you’re saying is you choose the worst intent of people’s words. Like when I say that I believe something, I’m in the bunker.

“What if I said that about you?” he asked. “I never say that about you!” At that point, Watters shut down all the bunker talk and brought the conversation back to Ortagus

Gutfeld was particularly wound up, and it seems to have shut his brain down on at least one point. “In the bunker” is a lazy and dishonest insinuation of blind partisanship, which Juan deployed as a cheap substitute for not having to refute the opposing argument…but it’s obviously not a veiled Hitler reference (seriously, who thinks “died in a bunker at the end of the war” is the most significant thing to associate with Hitler?).

On the rest, Gutfeld was dead-on. Juan Williams is a jerk who argues in bad faith every bit as much as any other liberal, but some conservatives pretend he’s different just because he’s on Fox. It was refreshing to hear someone call him on it; it’s just too bad Greg muddied the moral high ground by invoking Hitler.
