Kamala Harris is going all in behind Rep. Ilhan Omar
The 2020 Democratic candidate for president isn’t worried about Omar’s anti-Semitism. She’s worried someone might try to hurt the freshman Congresswoman.
From The Hill:
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) defended Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Thursday as the freshman congresswoman endures a storm of controversy surrounding her criticism of AIPAC and Israel and accusations of anti-Semitism.
Harris, who is running for president in 2020, wrote in a statement obtained by HuffPost that the continued attention directed at Omar, the first Muslim-American woman to serve in Congress, puts her at risk of possible violence.
“We all have a responsibility to speak out against anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and all forms of hatred and bigotry,” Harris said.
“But like some of my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus, I am concerned that the spotlight being put on Congresswoman Omar may put her at risk,” she added. …
Harris’s fellow 2020 contender Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also defended Omar on Wednesday, calling the attention surrounding the freshman congresswoman an attempt to silence legitimate criticism of Israel.
“What I fear is going on in the House now is an effort to target Congresswoman Omar as a way of stifling that debate,” he said in a statement. “That’s wrong.” …

Ok but she’s following Bernie’s lead, doubt she’d be saying anything otherwise. Once again he’s the one showing leadership.

For those making this into a Bernie versus Kamala fight, it’s unnecessary. Both statements added nuance. Kamala noted the safery risk to the attacks on Omar. Instead of fighting, we should be grateful for both. I’m sure Rep. Omar appreciates all the support she can get.

blah blah blah…more meaningless and empty rhetoric from Kamala. Glad that Bernie actually got to the point and truly defended Omar https://t.co/OdphlefjVG

The only way there’s ever going to be a two-state solution, is if/when Netanyahu is out of office and behind bars. Yes, the settlements are a problem, but hopefully, once Bibi is out, discourse can happen.

Not really since it ignores the fact that Rep Omar made two clearly anti semitic statements. She seems to feel that questioning the loyalty of American jews to the US is acceptable. We of course do not question her loyalty as an American muslim.

Thank you @KamalaHarris. This is the answer I was praying you’d give.
You confirmed that my support for you for the past 11 years have not been in vain.
Just donated again to #Kamala2020.

Congratz on hitting the word count Senator Harris. Let us know when you dont go to AIPAC conventions or shake hands with a quasi fascist in Benjamin Netanyahu.

Sanders and Kamala, the only two willing to issue courageous statement on Ilhan? Where the hell are the other candidates?
