By now you’ve probably heard that Fox News weekend host Jeanine Pirro is under fire for her most recent opening monologue. During the course of criticizing Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota for her recent anti-Semitic comments, Pirro said:
“Think about this. She’s not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine from the Democrat party,” Pirro continued. “So if it’s not rooted in the party, where is she getting it from? Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested.”
“Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to sharia law which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?” Pirro asked.
“I think that this is sharia adherence behavior,” Pirro said later in the show, in an interview with Deep State™ pundits Josh Solomon and Sarah Carter. “It is somewhat disturbing if she is someone that is sharia compliant. Do we know anything about that?”
This was stupid for a number of reasons: anti-Israel sentiment most certainly does come from the Democrat Party (among other sources), and while Islam expert Robert Spencer defended Pirro by noting that Sharia does mandate hijabs, all Sharia-adherent women wearing headscarves doesn’t necessarily mean all Muslims who observe traditions like the hijab are Sharia-adherent. Sincere, liberty-loving Muslims such as M. Zuhdi Jasser passionately oppose Sharia, after all.
In response, Fox issued a statement
We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar. They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.
So did Pirro:
I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American. My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution. I invite Rep. Omar to come on my show any time to discuss all of the important issues facing America today.
There’s no word yet on whether Omar will take Pirro up on her offer, but she did respond with the following whopper of a statement:
Thank you, @FoxNews. No one’s commitment to our constitution should be questioned because of their faith or country of birth. https://t.co/haqm7NWRw0

“No one’s commitment to our constitution should be questioned because of their faith or country of birth”…says the woman who started this whole mess when she said (among other things):
I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country. I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA, of fossil fuel industries, or big pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying movement that is influencing policy.
At first glance, it might seem like Omar possesses weapons-grade audacity, practically daring the world to notice how big a hypocrite she is.
In fact, the truth is much worse: her brazenness is a direct result of knowing she can get away with damn near anything, with the full knowledge and compliance of her party and the press. Democrats just taught her exactly that by “addressing” her comments with a “bigotry” resolution that didn’t even mention her.
Welcome to a world without any semblance of accountability. And if Democrats keep the House or win back any more of the federal government in 2020, it will only get worse.
